I'm a former foreign correspondent with the Voice of America. I had the great honor to spend an afternoon at the bedside of the ailing Carlos Romulo interviewing him for several hours shortly after the assassination of Benigno Aquino in 1983. I'm currently writing a memoir that will include a tribute to Romulo. Even after all these years, I continue to be impressed by this remarkable man.

Mr. Carlos P. Romulo was just a name I encountered and memorized during my history classes in elementary and high school but seeing "The Romulo Reader" wedged between two other books in Manila City Library one fateful day changed it all. Though I was not fortunate enough to have been alive during his time, reading "The Romulo Reader" thus far has given me a more personal sense of the man who gave his whole life to the Philippines. To put it shortly, his words will forever remain immortal to the world and will continue to inspire generations of Filipinos! Thank you for giving me a chance to be inspired patriotically through "The Romulo Reader"!

I was born soon after Liberation. Twice lucky for being spared the horrors of the occupation (although I lived them vicariously through my parents' stories) and for having the opportunity and honor of meeting General Romulo and listening to him speak on a number of occasions. I still have to listen to another speaker who held my attention as his every word resonated with me.

Thanks for sharing!
