This is a wonderfully-written essay. It shows that the eloquence of Carlos Romulo will never die as long as future generations continue to write like this.

The memorial is heart rending, posting this in government offices might awaken our conscience & our hearts in giving unconditional service to our people & to our country.

I can't but help that as I read my heart goes a pounding, I could feel the sufferings of those soldiers, the cruel march - how many thousands died - let us remember them by helping our country rise again, so these heroes would not have died in vain.

I would like to thank you for having the "Laughter in a funeral parlor" published in the Phil.Daily Inquirer. It gave me a deeper sense of appreciation for your grandfather and for the sacrifices he made for our country. I am not ashamed to let you know that I cried upon reading this article specially to the point of him torn between duty to country and family. It is so sad and yet your grandfather reinforced in me the love we have to share to our country including the challenging times ahead of us and most especially, to the point of going beyond mere "nationhood" but caring for others no matter what colors they have as a human being.

Please accept my warmest thank you for your gift ...of sharing your grandfather to a plain citizen like me...and to the rest of mankind.

Maraming maraming salamat po.
