Giving credit to his former teacher, the General reminds me of my own teacher, the late Dr. Pura Santillan Castrence, who pased away at 102 in Australia. She gave me the discipline in studying. But I hasten to add that to Romulo readers, the information the General gives is inspiring.

Very touching his account how he learned English. As among those who worked under him in the Department of Foreign Affairs at Padre Faura, Manila, aside from substance and contents, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Carlos P. Romula was very particular and strict on the English grammar and spellings in memoranda, other documents submitted to him for his consideration or approval.

He had the patience of correcting every word and sentence and returning them to us with his corrections before he signs the documents.

This particular excerpt illustrates most graphically one of the most
striking characteristics of the late Gen. Romulo, in that he would
always give credit where it was due. We would all do well to always
remember this.

Thanks. This somewhat dramatic post reminds me very much of my own elementary school teachers who taught me how to read and write. I am now in my 78th year.
