Geologist Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. has dedicated a significant portion of his career to public service, and has used his expertise to make a difference for our country by becoming an important figure in disaster risk reduction and management. For more than three decades, he has contributed his commitment and leadership to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), currently serving as its Director.
A recognized expert in Geochemistry, Marine Geology, Volcano and Earthquake Geology, Geologic Hazards Assessment and Awareness, and Earth Science Education, he holds a Master’s Degree in Geological Science from the University of Illinois and completed his doctorate in Earth Science at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, University of California in San Diego. He has also written several publications on these subjects.
He has earned numerous awards for his expertise and dedicated service, including the 2010 Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award (Presidential Public Service Award) in recognition of his contribution to disaster risk reduction, as well as for initiating a nationwide mapping program to identify tsunami-prone areas to assist local governments in their development plans.
Undersecretary Alexander Patiño Pama assumed as Acting Administrator of the Office of Civil Defense on 12 May 2014 and concurrently, as the Executive Director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Prior to his appointment, Usec. Pama worked under the Office of the Executive Secretary and was the Executive Director of the National Coast Watch Council Secretariat, an inter-agency body created under Executive Order No. 57 s. 2011 by President Aquino in 2011.
This assignment to the Department of National Defense is Usec. Pama’s third stint at the DND during the term of then Minister of National Defense (MND) Juan Ponce Enrile from 1983 to 1987 and second, as the Senior Military Assistant and Chief of Staff to the SND under Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr.
Retired Vice Admiral Pama is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1979 and served as Flag Officer in Command until his retirement on 21 December 2012.
During the course of his career, he underwent and excelled in various military and civilian education and training course.
Edgar O. Chua is the Country Chairman of Shell companies in the Philippines. He has corporate responsibility for the various Shell companies in the exploration, manufacturing and marketing sector of the petroleum business. He also oversees the Chemicals businesses and Shared Services. He is currently on the Advisory Board of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Globe Telecom, Inc. and Coca Cola FEMSA Philippines; Chairman of the Philippine Business for the Environment; President of Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc; and trustee of various civic and business organizations including the National Competitiveness Council and the Trilateral Commission.
His career spans more than 30 years of experience in the business fields of chemicals, auditing, supply planning and trading, marketing and sales, lubricants, corporate affairs and general management. Outside the Philippines, he held senior positions as Transport Analyst in Group Planning in the UK and as General Manager of the Shell Company of Cambodia. From July1999 to August 2003, he served in various regional roles in Shell Oil Products East including GM for Consumer Lubricants covering all countries East of Suez Canal including Saudi Arabia, China, India, Korea, ASEAN, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from De La Salle University (1978) and attended various international seminars and courses including the senior management course in INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. He is a recipient of numerous local and international recognitions, including CEO EXCEL for Excellence in Communication in Organisations (2005); People of the Year 2013, and awarded the Management Association of the Philippines’ (MAP) Management Man of the Year (2013). In 2014, he was cited as the CEO of the Year in the Asia Pacific SABRE (Superior Achievement in Branding Reputation and Engagement) Awards in China.
His professional experience also includes 22 years of work in the field of law practice, civil and sanitary engineering.
His impressive educational background includes a law degree from the Manuel L. Quezon University, a civil engineering diploma from the University of Baguio, and a degree in sanitary engineering from the National University.
